Requests and Claims

Righty-o, then! Here's the ubiquitous claims post. Feel free to offer your most cherished fantasies for Merlin's future! Where would you like the show to go? What would you like to see happen next? And what do you think might happen in the distant future, with all your favorite characters, long after the five seasons of the show are done? Anything and everything you can possibly imagine for the show's future has a definite chance of being written, drawn or vidded here. Get loose! Get freaky. Uh huh. Uh huh.

The following rules might help you better adhere to the threadbare requirements of this humble fest. Please follow these rules, and spare me the trouble of spitting fire futilely in my underground cave while you hand my special magic sword over to someone else! Even if it is Uther Pendragon. Yes, that's right. I'm looking at you, young warlocks. Have a care.

1. All requests must be made in the form of comments to this post.

2. All requests must be set in the future. (After the end of Season One.)

3. No request may deviate in any way from known canonical facts.

4. Anyone can make a request; only a member may claim it.

5. Requests must be claimed by replying to the comments in which the requests were made.

6. You may make or claim as many requests as you like.

7. Any number of people may claim a request, so long as they each do something unique with it.

8. Your requests may be as long or as short as you like. Simple prompts are okay, too.

9. Yes, you can claim your own prompt. Just make sure to leave a comment saying that you are.

10. If there is a particular pairing or situation that you definitely do not want to see, say so.

Go ahead and make your requests, everyone! Make as many as you'd like; claim as many as you'd like. You have to be a member to claim a request, though. Keep that in mind.

Once you've claimed a prompt, go here to read the submission rules. Do not post to this community if you a) haven't read the submission rules, or b) aren't sure that you'll be able to obey them. But if you are ready to play by the rules, then you're more than welcome to join our happy little fest! Claim a prompt and get going! The deadline is the 1st of September 2009, so there's plenty of time for you to churn out an entry or two.

Contact me if you have any questions. My email address is saucery AT yahoo DOT com. I'm also leaving a few requests below, just to show the rest of you how it's done. (Ha. Well, the real motive is to get someone to claim my prompts. Hee!)

Whee! The firstest request EVAR!
Set around 5-10 years in the future, I guess? Gaius has died/retired, and Merlin is the new Royal Physician. His first order of business on the job turns out to be a mass medical emergency that even his magic can't seem to solve... It's up to you whether Arthur is already king at this point, or not. Main thing: Merlin the Physician. 'Cause I like the idea of that. Bonus points for potions-brewing and historically inaccurate distillation apparatuses and shiny pseudo-scientific stuff. Oh, and Arthur being an irritable, helpless prat who has to do TEAMWORK with Merlin in order to fix this mess.

Too specific, ain't it? Well, let me know if you want to claim it, anyway.

I'd like to claim this one! :) How serious a fic did you have in mind?

Another batch of requests.
Request #1: I just want to see someone write their own version of the first episode of season 2. :D Preferably gen, obviously, but I suppose that in this show, even the gen is slashy... Well, as long as it's realistically in-character and nothing overtly explicit, slash and het are fine. It has to read just like a canonical episode, though. Whatever else you do is up to you. :)

Request #2: King Arthur and his trusted Court Physician, Merlin, share a moment of gentle domesticity. Slash! I want them to be at least 30 years old, oh, please. And very deeply in love with each other - two sides of the same coin and all that, except that now, they both know it. And appreciate it.

Request #3: Mordred/Morgana. An adult Mordred (at least old enough to be legal!). Strange, fraught conversations about fatherhood and magic and belonging. Bonus points if said conversations lead to sex or at least something mildly sexual, but even PG-rated het is fine with me.

Request #4: Why does Arthur marry Gwen? (When the one he loves is obviously Merlin, and the one Gwen loves is Lancelot?) Solve this future mystery for me, please.

Request #5: Uther finds out about Merlin's magic before Arthur does.

Request #6: Uther finds out about Morgana's magic. How does he deal? What will happen to Morgana?

Request #7: Gwen finds out about Morgana's magic. It only serves to bring them closer together. (Femslash preferred, but not necessary.)

Request #8: Gaius gen. He's about to retire and leave Camelot, possibly a few years from now. What are his thoughts? Why is he leaving? What state is Camelot in when he leaves? (For example, is Uther still king, or is it Arthur? How is Merlin? Etc.)

Yay! That's it for my requests!

I'm claiming number 2 and number 8!

As you can see, people can claim their own prompts. Remember, also, that a claimed request is still open for claiming by any number of other people. (Hint, hint!)

Might I claim No. 4? With the implicit knowledge that it WILL be M/A. *blushgrin*

Also, staking a claim on No. 5 - I'm assuming you don't want a huge great thesis on the pros and cons of beards, so something short and fun and easy would be OK? ^_^ If not, do tell, and I'll unstake my claim. *g*

1) 2-5, Arthur has been King for exactly two weeks before he appoints Merlin as his chief advisor. Arthur argues he'd rather have an idiot he trusted with his life, then a genius he couldn't trust as far as he can throw.
Uther's old advisors, (he had advisors right? I mean who are all those people he eats with when Merlin tells them he's a sorcerer?) are not impressed by this and they resort to increasingly ridiculous plans to get Merlin back to his old position as Manservant. CRACK!FIC? Y/Y?
Merlin/Arthur might be nice but Gen is also good. But please no het unless it's mentions of Uther/Igraine. If it is Merlin/Arthur can we have Arthur finding out what the advisors have done and be all protective, please?

More requests!
I'm sorry. I just can't help myself!

Request #1: Uther/Hunith. Uther has to take shelter with Hunith for some reason (hiding out in Ealdor after a failed battle with a neighboring king?). He finds out about Arthur having helped Ealdor, but can't exactly be too angry about it, considering that the people of Ealdor are giving him shelter for that very reason - they feel that they owe him. He also ends up appreciating peasant life while taking a break from the crazy kingly duties of ruling Camelot. He and Hunith have conversations about parenthood and its attendant responsibilities, and Uther leaves with a new understanding of how he might better communicate with his son. I want Hunith to be characterized as the strong, gentle, noble woman she is - and I want Uther to appreciate her for it, to finally recognize that peasants can be noble, too. A sense of remorse for not having helped her earlier, when she had come to beg him for help, would be great too. Maybe Uther's a little bit in love with her? Or he feels more affection and respect for her than he has for any woman since his wife's death, anyway.

Request #2: Soon after the end of season 1, Merlin finds out that Arthur actually knows about his magic, and has known for some time - or has been piecing things together and has a tentative understanding of the fact that Merlin might be "a little bit magic". However, Arthur has been hiding his knowledge for some reason. Why is this? (Er, I know that this requires what might seem to be a modification of the past, but it doesn't actually change any canonical facts to have Arthur know and not say anything, right? Right.)

Request #3: Arthur goes undercover as a commoner, and learns many valuable lessons about life. The experience ends up (or will end up) making him a better king. I'd be very happy if he went undercover with Merlin, so that they were both forced to live as equals and Arthur couldn't order Merlin around anymore - but really, you don't have to include Merlin if you don't want to. Most important thing: Arthur as a commoner. Make up any reason you need for him to have to do this!

Request #4: A serial killer in Camelot! Like, I don't know, Jack the Ripper but in Arthurian times. The people are panicking; nobody knows who the criminal is. The killer targets only young women who are virgins, and there are rumors that the murders might in fact be for a magical reason (virgin sacrifice?). But no one really knows. In order to find out who the serial killer is, Arthur and Uther try to come up with a plan. The only feasible plan is to set up a decoy and tempt the murderer out of hiding - but who to use as bait? They can't use a woman, obviously, since that would be dishonorable. That's when someone comes up with a brilliant idea - MERLIN CAN BE THE WOMAN! Um. The female victim. Arthur resists the proposal; Uther insists. ("Who else can it be?" Merlin's pretty enough to get by as a girl, anyway. And it turns out that he's a virgin.) Crack involving cross-dressing and stalking (Arthur following at a distance to make sure that Merlin's safe) is a must. Arthur/Merlin must ensue, especially after a bizarre near-death encounter with an insane and possibly magical serial killer. How will Arthur rescue his girl? It's up to you!

Request #5: A sorcerer infiltrates Camelot by disguising himself (or herself) as someone we all know well. Who does the sorcerer impersonate, and to what end? How does everyone else figure out that it's an impostor? What happened to the original, anyway, or are there two copies of the same person roaming around? Do whatever you like with this scenario!

Re: More requests!
The weird thing about your Uther/Huntith one is, before Vista crashed my Sims 2 (grr) I had a Merlin family (Uther had Arthur, then Morgana, then Merlin and Huntih had some family problems and Arthur begged him to take them in. Cos they have a huge house) and I was planning for Uther and Hunith to fall in love....

I'm a nutter. I know.

Request #1
A Nimueh lookalike arrived at Camelot. Everyone is paranoid and mistrustful at first, but they finally accept that she's not Nimueh.

The Nimueh lookalike befriends/seduces Merlin, with surprising success. How does Arthur react?
Feb. 24th, 2009 04:52 am (UTC)
Request #2
From the servant grapevine, Gwen/Merlin heard about a newborn who has strange things happening around him/her.

Gaius/Merlin suspects that the newborn might be magical, but surely Uther's laws do not extend to an innocent baby?
Feb. 24th, 2009 04:54 am (UTC)
Request #3
Arthur's new favorite game to pass the time is dice.

Merlin keeps on winning every single game.

It's fine when it was just Arthur, but soon the knights challenge Merlin one by one, and accusations of magic start to fly.
Feb. 24th, 2009 05:07 am (UTC)
Request #4
Someone wanted to become Gaius' apprentice.

Either he shares Merlin's quarters or Merlin offered to move somewhere else.

How does Arthur react?

Post-Avalon requests!
So apparently I'm high on too much teen fest spirit, because SOMEBODY STOP ME FROM MAKING MORE REQUESTS, SERIOUSLY. Sigh.

These requests are all post-Avalon, which means that they're all set after Arthur gets sent to Avalon following his final battle with Mordred. This is something that is an integral part of Arthurian myth, or, as Wikipedia calls it, the myth of King Arthur's messianic return. W00t! Arthur never dies, after all! We fangirls have nothing to fear!

Request #1: What happens to Arthur in Avalon? Does he really stay asleep for the interim of his stay there? Is Merlin with him? Avalon is known as "The Isle of the Blessed," so what fantastical creatures populate the isle (if any)? Also, time is said to pass differently in Avalon; it's like an alternate dimension. Something exploring this aspect of Avalon would be great, as well.

Request #2: What happens to Camelot after Arthur is sent away to Avalon? Does Merlin stay behind to help keep things together? Or do they fall apart anyway? What are all the other characters doing once Arthur is gone? Does the Golden Age of Chivalry survive?

Request #3: In Britain's (Albion's) hour of need, Arthur is summoned again. He awakens from his ancient sleep in Avalon and fights to save Albion once more... Your entry may be set at any time in the future that pleases you - when Britain is attacked by Germans during WWII? During a (God forbid) contemporary terrorist attack in 21st century London? Or during the last invasion of Britain by the French in 1797? Or when the Vikings invade England circa 850-1042 AD? Or a more supernatural threat, like Jack the Ripper turning out to be an insane warlock killing women to discover the source of immortality, all in the seedy surrounds of nineteenth-century London? (IDEK. Just something putting Albion at risk in the future and Arthur rising heroically to save the day. It can be historically accurate or not; it just has to be interesting. Okay?)

For people who claim request #3, know that you can use any timeframe after the 6th century AD, and you can do anything you want with it. For example, as one of the wildest speculations of Arthur's return, you can be endlessly amused by Camelot 3000, which "follows the adventures of King Arthur, Merlin and the reincarnated Knights of the Round Table as they reemerge in an overpopulated future world of 3000 A.D. to fight off an alien invasion masterminded by Arthur's old nemesis, Morgan Le Fay." Uh HUH. Is that outlandish or what? It's sci-fi, Arthurian style! So you can do anything you like with request #3, really; you can make up your own "threats to Britain" if you don't find any in existing historical records that appeal to you, and you can base these threats anytime after the 6th century - even way after the 6th century. Like in 3000 AD. Hee!

Excellent prompts! I can't WAIT to see #2 get written!

But may I ask you to remove 1.5? It requires a change to canonical facts (Sophia being the Lady of the Lake), and that's unfortunately the one thing people can't request. :( Gah, I'm so sorry! It's a really cool plot-bunny, but it's against fest rules, is all - please feel free to make any other requests that don't change canonical facts. (Rules are above, in the body of the post.)

Um, if you like, you can simply post a reply to your comment saying that you've canceled 1.5, or you could delete the comment itself and re-post it without 1.5. Either way is fine. Thanks so much for listening, and for supporting the fest!

I can't write at all, but I can give ideas! :) And also, somebody please write saucery's prompt about Arthur and Gwen, because I've been puzzling over that myself, given the show canon, and would LOVE to see a canon-fitting explanation.

1. Arthur finds out, as you see it actually happening on the show. So, episodic and probably gen, though I'll never say no to M/A!

2. The dragon is set free. Maybe Merlin does it by accident, maybe the magical villain of the week manages it. Mayhem and/or hijinks ensue.

3. Somehow Arthur ends up spending a day with Gaius, like, picking herbs or something. I don't even know, I just think this would be hilarious.

4. I just read OAFK, and I'd kill for someone to write any or all of:
- Arthur meeting Robin Hood,
- Arthur meeting King Pellinore (the show already had a Pellinore, what what, but this is probably his dad),
- Merlin turning Arthur into a squirrel,
- Merlin getting more powerful and confused with time and space,
- Arthur gathering his knights, the ones who aren't going to die on an episodic basis, but the ones for his future,
- Arthur dying.
Mar. 5th, 2009 01:52 am (UTC)
So I really should be working on the fifty thousand other things I'm trying to write at the moment, but I really can't resist...

I'd like to claim two of the options from 4 por favor - Arthur turning into a squirrel (SUCH a genius idea, I just hope I can do it justice!) and Merlin BEFRIENDING AN OWL NAMED ARCHIMEDES BECAUSE OH MY THAT JUST SOUNDS SO AWESOME!

Wow. Ridiculously excited about these two ideas. 'Scuse me, got some writing to do!

meeting of the immortals
This idea just literally popped into my head this morning... Hope this doesn't violate any of the canonical rules...

Immortal Merlin while waiting for Arthur's return meets Jack Harkness. What would happen when 2 immortals with very different views on love meet each other in the future? I'd like for them to become sort of drinking buddies. They make plans to meet once a century or something and they'd chat about their lives and love life... Merlin's lack of one and Jack's lively one? NO slash between Merlin and Jack whatsoever. Jack can hit on Merlin, b/c otherwise he would not be Jack Harkness but Merlin does not reciprocate AT ALL. It ends with Jack showing up at their next meeting time and place but no Merlin. And Jack realizes that Arthur had returned and Merlin had gone with him after whatever it was Arthur needed to do the save the world.

1) Avalon is an important part in the legend, and it's already shown up in canon. What part is it going to play in the future? Presumably it's going to have a role in Arthur's death/sending off... but the years in between? It's accessible through a magical lake within walking distance of the castle, honestly. There have got to be SOME misadventures that go on.

(IDK if Avalon is at the bottom of the lake like they said or if it's supposed to be the Isle of the Blessed. Maybe it's both? Maybe it's a separate place entirely? Play with it, that's what the prompt is for. :D)

1.5) As an auxiliary to that, or maybe as a separate prompt entirely: Aulfric said that the sidhe were going to take a life during the ritual, and wouldn't discriminate between Arthur's or Sophia's. Arthur obviously didn't die, so they must have taken Sophia. Even though, hang on, MERLIN was the one who killed her. That must have caused some problems! Convoluted explanations aside, what I'm getting at is this: what if, because of this, Sophia became the Lady of the Lake? Immortal, but tied to the lake where she was killed and not quite allowed to live in Avalon and join up with the rest of the sidhe because she didn't sacrifice her prince properly. And hmm, she now happens to be in possession of a certain magical sword that Arthur might find useful later, but she also has quite the grudge against Merlin!

2) The origins of the Round Table! Where/when did Arthur get the idea, how did he get the table, who what did he proceed to do on with the table, etc. :D

Here we go. I have a few, Um.

1. Arthur/Merlin: Either man gets amnesia. Bonus points for both men having a relationship already before this. Which of course means that the one with the amnesia does not remember. Which of course means ANGST. Okay, not really. But it's another bonus point. MORE BONUS points if the one with amnesia thinks he's whatever age these two are in season one. (Yes, I know there are a lot of bonus points in this request. Lol.)

2. Arthur/Merlin: I've seen this idea used a lot in other fandoms, mainly Harry Potter. Baby! Merlin or Arthur, anyone?

3. Arthur/Merlin/MORDRED: (Yes, you read that right, MORDRED). Um. Merlin is court magician and all, Camelot is in happy times, blah blah, enter Mordred. A nice, sweet, albeit kind of intense, you know the drill, Mordred. Arthur is besotted, Merlin is not. Or, you can make Merlin the besotted, and Arthur not. But I think it will work better the other way, as we all know Merlin knows about Mordred. Angst, hate, love, betrayal, sex, lust. Yeah.

4. Arthur/Lancelot + Merlin: Not really a threesome. A more Voyeur!Merlin, you know, catching some action one night. If you want to make a threesome though, after Merlin watches, go for it! I'll give you TRILLION BONUS POINTS! And lots and lots of cookies.

5. Arthur/Merlin OR Gen: Morgana (or Mordred, or both) is poisoning Merlin. This takes place after Morgana joins with Mordred and the Druids, etc. It starts with coughs. Nothing really bad. Then it starts with dizzyness. Nothing to worry about, not really. Then aches and pains, then diahhrea, then actually fainting spells. Then coughing out blood. Then *gasp*, coma. There is a pattern here, yes. Everyone is worried. Gaius (yes, he is STILL ALIVE, the old bugger) says that it's the work of magic. What must Arthur do? Will Merlin survive? Slash or gen, your choice!

6. Arthur/Merlin: They have a falling out. How it happens, that's your choice. I like to think it's because Arthur doesn't accept Merlin's magic and everything. Merlin leaves Camelot, of his own free will. And no, no one is after his blood or what not. Years pass. Many. About 10. Something big, I dunno, the death of someone Merlin loves, someone is sick and wants to see him, I'm not sure, prompts Merlin to come back, kind of against his own free will. This may seem OOC of Merlin, but he still resents Arthur and kind of hates him. As for how Arthur feels after so long...up to you. I like to think he may be happy, albeit a little resentful because Merlin LEFT. But this is up to you. :)

7. Arthur/Merlin: Arthur dreams. Of all the times Merlin saved his life. HE DOES NOT KNOW ABOUT HIS MAGIC. This is how fe finds out. Who sends the dreams, up to you. I like to think. A Mystery.

PHEW! I know, a lot, right? These are all the ones I have wanted to write and never will. So please, oh fabulous writers, take them?

1. Morgana is married off by Uther to Uriens and she hates it. How did Uther manage to force her? Likely he did it to protect her and set her up in the world, but it turns Morgana against him and against Camelot, and in secret she starts studying magic. Up to you, but I'd love a take on the situation that not only explains Morgana's antagonism to Camelot but casts her as a kind of a freedom fighter for the religious rights of Druids and sorcerors.

2. Merlin, already an old man/an immortal who's lived around 80 years (here's your chance to write your own outline of the Arthurian history!) is seduced by Nimueh, who either didn't really die on the Blessed Isle (trapdoor? beamed up at the last moment? you decide - but have there be an excuse so it's not AU) or is a ghost. She leads him into a cave out of which neither of them can ever emerge, to stop him having any more influence on history. Why is this so important to her? What is the history she is trying to prevent? What happens to them afterwards? Merlin/Nimueh, I hope, or they're going to have an even more miserable eternity.

3. Camelot is at war. Uther sends both Morgana and Gwen to the safety of Glastonbury Abbey, to wait in anxious frustration for news. The story would be from their point of view. Does the island share a mystical connection to Avalon? Do the ley lines they say cross on the island enhance her prophetic dreams? What if the priests find out about it - do they cast her as a saint or a witch? How can the girls help Camelot from their confinement? I'd love to see a plotline that somehow let's their actions be instrumental in ending the war and saving Camelot.

I am a requesting MACHINE.

Hopefully Merlin/Arthur, probably 2-5 years in the future, but I'm not terribly picky about the timeframe.

Uther gives Arthur an ultimatum: choose a bride in (set amount of time; you decide how long or short it is) or he will do it for him. Maybe Arthur knows who Uther has in mind and can't stand her, or maybe he just doesn't like the idea of being married off to a stranger for political gain; in any case, he frets about who he is to marry and hurries to try and find a bride on his own. Somehow he finds out about Merlin's magic, and begs him (probably he orders him first, and then gets around to begging after asking and being refused a few times) to solve the problem for him. Whoever has the idea is up to you, but Merlin turns himself into a woman to be Arthur's bride.

From there, details can go several ways — Arthur can intend to have his bride "run off" and make the excuse that Merlin has just gone to Ealdor in the meantime, or he can be hazier on his plans for the future. Maybe he intends for it to just go on until his father is dead, or— forever?

Merlin can become full female or just appear female and still have all the right bits down below. If he's fully female, I'd love to see the following:

-an awkward physical examination with an unwitting Gaius
-Merlin making a mess of his first period and having no idea what to do
-Merlin simultaneously upset with and fascinated by his own body (and maybe exploring it when alone)
-Merlin pressuring Arthur into sleeping with him "to see what it feels like like this"
-pregnancy scares (or pregnancy; I just want the subject that he can get pregnant and can't easily prevent it if he's having sex to come up)

If he's not fully female, then I'd rather see:

-an awkward moment with a knight or servant catching him with an erection or something like that — something where they can't see for sure, but they know something isn't quite what they thought
-Merlin trying to make small talk with other ladies or female servants, and then having it turn into a more intimate discussion where he has to make things up about how hard it is to be a woman (possibly with him saying something ridiculous in relation to his period, like, "Oh, yes, I hate it when my, er, breasts start to itch. During that.")
-Arthur initially refusing to sleep in the same bed as Merlin, until Merlin points out that it could very well blow their cover or until their cover really is nearly blown
-a slow coming together, after they've been together a while, with Arthur initiating it

Things I would not like to see in any case:

-Merlin actually staying a girl forever (he can be a girl for almost all of the fic, but by the end he should be male again); he can, however, think he might stay a girl forever
-Arthur knowing about Merlin's magic before the fic begins
-Arthur and Merlin being together before their wedding
-Morgana/Gwen. Sorry, it's not that I don't like it, but for this I'd rather see one of them with Lancelot, or with... I don't know, someone else. I certainly want them to be happy and loved, but not together.
-a marriage between Gwen and Arthur, or Arthur and anyone not Merlin, for any reason. (Not that I don't think they're adorable together, buuut...)

WHOO. Sorry that's so long! Um, basically it boils down to Merlin disguising himself as a woman so that Arthur doesn't have to marry someone Uther picks. And Merlin/Arthur. :D

Hunith/Lancelot. Yeah, for real. Merlin goes to visit his mother, and he finds that after Lancelot left Camelot, he wandered for a while, and then finally came to Ealdor, where he met Hunith. They both knew Merlin and so they had something in common, and after talking a while she invited him to stay, and "one thing led to another..." Merlin is dumbfounded and a little bothered. If you can include Merlin/Arthur, it'd be all the better, but that's definitely not required.

Far beyond Camelot's borders, Lancelot meets an (older) Mordred, who is a man, but still young, angry, and vengeful after Uther has gone on to kill more and more of his family. His rage is terrible, and while Arthur is not yet king, he mentions planning to kill him — he doesn't think he could kill Uther, or doesn't think there would be a point to it, but he wants something back for his pain. Lancelot convinces him not to; eventually, they return to Camelot together.

The real reason Gwen didn't want to choose between Arthur and Lancelot is because she doesn't actually like men. Oh, sure, she likes Merlin, and she can act like a fool around him, but only because she hopes he might be her best possible marriage — he wouldn't force her to be physical or hate her for not being able to love him like a wife. She eventually confides her plans to Merlin, and her crush on Morgana, and Merlin agrees to it — but hopes that she can be happy someday.

Then, one night, afraid of her own visions and that Uther has discovered them and might have her executed, Morgana is stealing away into the night, and is discovered by Gwen. She insists that she should go with her.

Together they travel just outside Camelot, together, and falling in love along the way. They return when Uther is on his deathbed. You decide what happens from there.

Arthur and Merlin wind up stuck in a kingdom that is not Albion — it may be a real country, based on a real country, or something fake, it doesn't matter. For whatever reason, no one will believe Arthur is really a prince, and so they are stuck, penniless, and both peasants. Arthur has to rely heavily on Merlin for survival, and they become closer as a result.

That's all I'll ask for, but some things to consider:

-How do the laws differ in this other country? Are they almost the same? Is magic allowed? Would Merlin use that to his advantage?
-What would happen if Merlin became angry with Arthur and left him on his own in this place?
-What's going on back in Camelot during all of this? Is there an impersonator in Arthur's place?

I'd prefer for them to get back to Camelot in the end, but only after spending a good deal of time (several months, or even years) in this other country.

Arthur and Merlin (and maybe also Gwen and/or Morgana) switch genders. Either they are forced to flee Camelot for some reason coming from this, or they pass as maidservants or visiting ladies (adjust terms as needed if Gwen and Morgana are involved, of course). Arthur and Merlin find that they're attracted to one another in their new bodies and sleep together; however, when they fix it all, they're still straight. They have a new fondness for each other and long for something they can't explain — and don't realize that they're in love. Eventually they decide to make each other their exceptions.

No Gwen/Morgana, please, but if they are to be involved—

-one or both might take up training as knights (if Merlin can do a better forgery job this time), or just some sort of training as fighters
-Gwen might interact with Lancelot, with the situation becoming awkward (as situations tend to do when Gwen is involved... adorably awkward, that is)
-Morgana might be the driving force behind getting them back to the respective genders (being angry about having turned into a man) or she might take advantage of being a man in Camelot... or both!

No pairing to request — use any you like or none at al!

Merlin disappears for a while, and then, on the night of Arthur's coronation, he returns... with a long white beard and wrinkled skin.

Merlin/Arthur... maybe (I'd prefer it, but don't require it)

Merlin's magic becomes strong (and uncontrolled) enough to call magical beasts from faraway lands, and not all of them are intent on killing. The sirens, though, they could be a problem, as could that boar that speaks in riddles and the flying horse that's taken a liking to him... and Uther's reign isn't over yet.

Arthur should get into a lot of trouble with the beasts. Especially the sirens (and maybe a gorgon). Satyrs would be great, too! If you can throw vampires and/or werewolves and the like in, too, that'd be fantastic.

Oops! For number four — the Morgana/Gwen one — I'd like to say that I'd rather it not have Arthur/Merlin in it.

I am picky about my requests, I know.

And one more... for now! Muahahaha!

No pairing to request — use any you like or none at al!

Morgana becomes a vampire. Rumors fly among those who don't know that she's just locked away in the darkest rooms of the castle during the day: she was banished by Uther, she argued too much Arthur, she started practicing sorcery, she had an illicit love child with Arthur, she died in the night duiing her visions, she eloped... and meanwhile Morgana hears it all and despairs. She should also spend some good amount of time with Gwen, who continues to attend to her, and Merlin, who understands, to some extent, her problem.

Just before Mordred can strike Arthur with the last, fatal blow, Merlin unintentionally sends himself and Arthur to the future — any future you like. This is not Arthur's return from Avalon — this is an Arthur who has not yet died. He and Merlin must adjust to their new surroundings (and especially to new technology, especially if the humor is upped for it). Merlin is disappointed that the future seems devoid of magic; Arthur is disappointed that he is in neither Camelot nor Albion. They both feel guilty about leaving the other behind (Gwen, Morgana, Lancelot, and the other knights, that is — anyone they cared about whose life was at risk). They don't know what happened to Camelot after they left and struggle to find out while trying to survive in a world they aren't prepared for.

Can Merlin not make contact with the past? Can he bring some people forward in time with them? Can they ever return, or at they stuck in this new world forever?

I'd love it if you were creative with the setting, too. The place, that is — ideally I'd like it to be modern times, though it doesn't have to be. If it could be some place that isn't England, at least as a start (if they can find out that Albion = England they'd probably travel there, anyway), that would be fantastic. Where do they land — America (in LA, New York, or smack dab in a super-conservative town)? Japan (so that the people are unfamiliar, the technology is unfamiliar, the language is unfamiliar — they don't even know if they're on Earth anymore)? An African savannah? India? Canada? It's up to yooou!

Two more! Woot!

8. Arthur/Merlin OR Gen: Merlin's magic is killing him. You get the drift. Work with it. Either take the magic away for his own good, or find a way to let him have it, in the end. NO death fics, please.

9. Arthur/Merlin OR gen: Mordred or random evil baddie from Arthurian legends kidnaps Arthur to lure Merlin into a trap. They want to "turn" Merlin to the dark side. It happens. For a while. Scary stuff happens here. Work it! What must Arthur do? Must have a love saves the day vibe here. :D Meaning, Arthurs love for Merlin=Good Merlin!

Request 1:

Gwen finds out that Merlin has powers. Doesn't need to be a ship story. We've seen Arthur find out stories, I want to know what Gwen would do.

Request 2:

5/10 years in the future. What brings Mordred back? We clearly know he's not Arthur's son, but what is their relationship? How does that affect everyone? Bonus love if you get A/M in there in a realistic way.

I would love BEYOND WORDS to have a Hurt!Arthur fic filled with lots and lots of angst. And, BONUS POINTS if you give Limp!Arthur a bath.

Also, I'm not a huge slasher, but really appreciate the platonic love between Merlin and Arthur. So, I hope that's okay.

Thanks in advance! <3

1. We've seen the seeds of certain elements of Arthurian legend in canon. According to some versions, Morgana will become Arthur's enemy; Mordred seems to always have been. But why? Connect the dots between the boy Arthur helped, the young woman who loved Arthur (platonic or however), and the conspirators who will bring about Arthur's eventual demise.

2. (King) Arthur and an entourage of his most trusted knights go forth on a quest to seek others to join his court, leaving new-queen Gwen to mind the kingdom in their absence. Within a month, Camelot has been attacked, and Gwen must organise the defense until the others return. How does she do this? Distribution of other characters and ships or lack thereof is purely up to the author's choice.

Merlin and Arthur travel to the future. The steampunk future, that is.
